Truman Doctrine:
~March 12, 1947 
~Any country that is in danger from communism, the US will help them financially.


Containment Policy:
~US's foreign policy
~Includes Truman Doctrine(big circle), NATO(small circle), and the Marshall plan(small circle)
~Turkey(communist) --> Greece(granted 400 million)


Bay of pigs invasion:
~This is an attempt with US support to overthrow Cuba's Fidel Castro
~Same thing happened in invasion of Panama, US supported them to overthrow the government.


Us foreign policy with regard to Korea and Vietnam:
~Policing action
~Stop communism
~Give Korea support
~"Troops, cover & support"


Intervention:
~War started in Vietnam because US sent troops over to help the non communists troops.
~Didn't want to intervene so they aided Korea


Cold war development:
~Communism
~Soviet Union becomes a Nuclear power.

War power acts:
~A law that states the President cannot declare a war "GO" without the congress agreeing.


 World War II Foreign Policy vs. Post WWII Foreign Policy:
~Before, US didn't intervene with other countries unless f they had too. 
~ Then, we helped countries out by giving them money so that we can keep peace, and avoid war


Limited War:
~During war not all resources are used

~Berlin wall which kept you from Communist(East) and Democratic(freedom-West, France, and the US.)

~US helped out
~Started with an invasion

~Extreme # of deaths
~War was very expensive
~Gained a way of Guerilla


Peace crops:
~Americans volunteer to help underdeveloped nations in areas such as education, farming, health care, and construction.


End of COLD WAR:
~Gorbachev, from a younger generation, had a much more critical attitude toward the USSR 
~Fall of the berlin wall


Domino theory:
~if one country fell under communist influence or control, the countries by it would soon follow into the same footsteps like DOMINOS! haha
