Stop censoring our History books!!

Dear Dr.Rhinehart,
I don't think we should be censoring anything out of our history books. I think we should have the full knowledge of what goes on, and what went on before. I don't think it is fair to not teach us everything and every detail. We read about the Rape of Nanking in our class today, which was not in the text books. Yeah, what i read was really shocking and really straight forward, but i think we can handle it. We are old enough to not get anything censored out of our history books. I read about how the Japanese killed millions and killed them in ways you wont imagine. Honestly, it was disturbing but i thought i should know these things that happened because they ARE part of history still no matter how bad they are. This is what really happened, why keep us from that? This is what we call Genocide and it perfectly explains the meaning. Also, in Sudan genocide took place. They killed many civilians and made them suffer. They also used starvation as a weapon. Many more places like this were attacked by genocide. If Genocide is one of our vocabulary words, and your not going to tell us the details behind the word and what really took place, how do you expect us to learn and understand that word. Therefore, with all due respect i think us students earned the right to not have our history books censored because if you do that, we really aren't learning about all of our history at all are we?
                                                                                                      Sincerely, Marissa Balance

Cinderella man, critique

GEN-O-CIDE - countries still at risk today

In these countries a lot of Genocide is happening. What we read in class that happened long ago, it was horrible things about how the japanese killed millions of people and doing it in a way that will make them suffer. But is it happening today? A lot of people think it's not just because it's not happening in the United States, but they are wrong. It's happening in many other countries still till this day. Do you think we, as in the United States should intervene? Yes, i think we should. We have the power to do something and maybe we could help to where it doesn't occur in those countries any longer. But i also say no, because the simple fact that it will cause problems with a lot of countries and make them well hold a grudge against us and to tell you the truth we don't really like the drama. Yeah, i don't have a straight forward answer because it's to hard to choose because either way theres a consequence. If we don't, many people suffer and many of them die which i feel bad about and think we should stop it. But, if we do, maybe the other countries will come at us and start a "war." Although we can take care of ourselves, but the question is how long till we can't anymore? But, now that i think about it, i lean more to the yes we should intervene because many people out there are suffering and i think we should be willing to take the chance and stop it since we are so "big and powerful" because nobody can hurt us. Right?

Cinderella man, outline

INTRODUCTION:
Boxer, James J. Braddock was later nicknamed Cinderella man after his come back.
Wife, Mae Braddock always worrying when there will be a time when he will get hurt badly.
They had three children together. She also had a sister that would visit.
James's best friend was Mike Wilson, that died during the depression.
~Mainly, Braddock is living during the period of the Great Depression, and he is struggling to support his family after his career goes down hill.

FINANCIAL PROBLEMS:
- Jimmy lost everything he had due to the stock market crash, including a large house. Now, they live in like a small shack.
- He searches for jobs but it's very hard because many other people are searching for jobs too. So, they all go to a gate, and have to wait to get "picked" to work only that day. Tomorrow is the same process.
- His whole family is struggling not having enough food to eat and money to pay the bills.

STILL NOT SO WELL:
- Jimmy breaks his hand fighting, so this means it will be harder for him to get a job. If they see he has a cast on they wont pick him to work because they don't want to be slowed down. So he covers it up with shoe polish so it blends in.
- Then, he ends up asking for relief money to get the kids back, & to pay the light bill.

COME BACK:
- He has a couple of rough fights, but his coach is willing to pull through so he sells almost everything he has (this is what Mae stumbles upon as she knocks on his door) and wants to get him back in the game.
- People do not think he can last in any fight because they say he's "an old man."
- But somehow, he ends up determined to win the fights, and he changes and this is when his come back starts to be in affect.

BRADDOCK VS.?:
- He gets one big fight, and when he wins that fight, many other fights follow after.
- His wife is scared he might get hurt. Yeah, she supports him, but she doesn't want anything to happen to him to where he's gone in her and her kids lives.
- These fights were something big because he was getting paid and started to get back on track paying all of his bills.

MAX BAER (BE VERY AFRAID):
- Braddock moves on to become the heavyweight champ, but the only one left to fight was the other "champ" Max Baer.
- People warm him not to go through with the fight due to the fact that he killed two men in the rink. But, he goes through with it anyway.
- His wife Mae is scared because it has come to the time where his life is really threatened and he might die she says.
- Baer insults Braddock and his wife at a restaurant before the fight, and Mae throws a drink on him.
- The fight comes around, and it's a very tough fights. But ofcourse, Braddock wins and becomes the new heavy weight champ, with millions of screaming fans supporting him and calling him an inspiration.

FAIRY TALE:
- Braddock pays his relief money back to the helping people.
- He pays all his bills off because he can afford it now.
- Braddock moves on to do great things.
- He buys a big house for the family and now the family is happy.
- They live well for the rest of their lives.

Everything worked out for them, and although the hard times they went through it was okay because they still have each other and they are one big happy family. - Great movie by the way. :)

Trial case of Sacco & Vanzetti

Marissa Balance here on the case of Nicola (nee Ferdinando) Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, 1921 trying to get the cold hard facts. Both born in Italy, and both migrate to United States. Bombings start to appear and people start to think Sacco and Vanzetti are a part of this because with the previous people who blew themselves up were with Sacco and Vanzetti days before. Also, I think it's quite suspicious how they were caught armed and at Bridgewater. Why would they have to lie about this? Well, they were one of the many people who didn't enjoy the United States going to war so that gives them something to lie about.

Evidence says seven eye witnesses are saying that they saw Sacco and Vanzetti in the bandit car. Also, one person said they clearly saw Sacco shooting out of the bandit car. Right about now from all of the witnesses it doesn't look too well for their case. But, theres a twist, none of the witnesses were certain of their identifications. So it's really 50/50. Another evidence that they are guilty is the third gun shot was fired from Sacco's gun but, tests say other wise. A lot more evidence was presented but i'm not going to get into that because i seemed to almost have made up my mind about the trial after reading it.

Due to the trial of Sacco and Vanzetti people that have to do with it died, or people mistaken to take place in the trial. They died because bombing of their house. People were pretty upset with this trial, and clearly shown it with the grudge holding against the people prosecuting them. This kind of proves a point. If the two had nothing to do with all these violent acts, why are people out their (that probably have to do with the bombing) killing the ones contributing in the trial.

While they were asked questions, these men still pleaded innocent although all of the evidence is provided. Do i know they are guilty? Nobody knows. But, from what i’ve heard and seen all fingers point to Sacco and Vanzetti. Yeah, some things don’t add up, but some do. Like the places they go, and the people they talk to. If you ask me, i think they know how to hide things pretty well. But, not so well according to them being on this trial anyways. I’ve read more than enough to know if they are guilty or innocent.
Surely they are in this court house for a reason, and they know they are. If they are innocent it’s rarely hard to believe but i’ve come to my decision. I state Sacco and Vanzetti guilty as charged. My reason you ask? Hard cold facts, Sacco and Vanzetti had no alaby to present to this court. If they weren’t and i’m wrong then that’s thier fault for being at the wrong places at the wrong time. But, i highly doubt i’m wrong on this one. Yeah, the court isn’t too fair because they don’t know for SURE that they are guilty. When you look at it, it does seem to be right though. Sacco and Vanzetti from my point of view and from all of the evidence provided are caught red handed.

Scopes Trial.

Scopes Trial is basically evolution vs. religion. It was illegal to teach evolution during that period of time and you could only teach what was from the Bible. This i do not agree with this. You should be able to teach both from my perspective. But i lean more to evolution because many people in school today have different religions, and some may get offended if your teaching a certain religion that they are not comfortable with. Yeah, evolution basically states religion is fake but to tell you the truth we wont figure out things and help people with religion. Evolution has to do with science and i think we can get places with science, for instance we can find cures that will save peoples life or even help the ones that are sick or injured. So, the more i think about it, the more i'm on evolutions side because well religion can't do as much. Also, if religion was taught now-a-days it'll be really difficult because all of the different types of religion developed over time, and it's not like we can teach everyones religion, we can only teach one. So therefore, i go with evolution because it's less complicated than religion.

Organized Crimes. ♥

Yes, i wasn't there to see the presentations on Monday but i did learn a lot about my person who was George Kelly Barnes. He committed a lot of crimes and got infamous from many especially for kidnappings. This man grew up from a wealthy family so you would think he would of ended off on the right foot, but instead he took a wrong turn. He even dropped out of college and thats when he got involved with the wrong people and the wrong business. But, apart from that, he was just a person like all of us. His mother died, got divorced, events happened just like it would for all of us. But he eventually got what was coming for him. He got arrested plenty times, and honestly thats where he belonged. I believe many people like him got involved because the 18th amendment passed and it was a fast and easy way to get money because many people wanted to drink alcohol and gangsters provided it.
This is what led to gangsters like Machine Gun Kelly.
The Prohibition laws on alcohol led to the organized crimes. All because of this law, crime rates shot up.  Arrests for being drunk, Homicides, assault, and battery increased like crazy. Gangster's started to develop for example Al Capone. Al Capone ran many illegal businesses including bootlegging, gambling, prostitution and murder. A lot of people didn't have jobs and they needed to provide their families. Gangsterism was dangerous but it was a fast and easy way to make the money they need. The government thought passing Amendment 18 would curb crime and violence, Prohibition did not achieve it's goals. It lead more toward crime rates and violence with many people dead or sent to jail. Also, now with the gangsters in business and selling illegal alcohol SPEAK EASY's (illegal bars) were pretty much out of business. I guess Amendment 18 didn't go as well as they planned due to the organized crimes.

Acrostic Poem, :)

Prohibition passed and increased the amount of drinking.
Rum runners were people who smuggle alcohol.
Out with the drinking.
Henry Ford pushes Prohibition Amendment.
IRS were enforcing Amendment 18.
Bootleggers which were people who make illegal alcohol.
Illegal bars were also known as SPEAK EASY.
Transportation of alcohol was banned.
"Intoxicating Liquors" manufactured and sale of liquor was banned.
Opposite was true instead of promoting the nations health and hygiene, criminal activity and drug abuse increased.
"Noble experiment" didn't work out too well when violent activity went on due to no alcohol being present.
